The Experienced Goods team of Patty and Maggie, together with two detectives, Mark and Ronnie, team up to investigate the death of a beloved neighbor and dear friend, Doris. Patty, Maggie, Mark and Ronnie have been friends since grade school. They have nourished their friendship over time through fishing along the Minnehaha Creek in south Minneapolis, MN. Ramona and Margaret who help them in other capacities will do extra duties such as search florist shops or nose in stationery stores for calligraphy pens and nibs. However, they do garner a sizable amount of knowledge from sitting in the Senior Center and listening to gossip. When the woman across the alley, Stella, complains to Patty about her miniature poodle Mable, she knows that she’s onto something. When Patty uses her telescope to record sunrise and sunsets, she begins to zero in on Stella. Later it is discovered that Stella raises parakeets, peacocks and flamingos. The police artist who sketches friend’s pictures on the side for extra cash also is a curiosity. However, when the bookstore owner is found dead and Patty is attacked, the detectives follow their suspicions and clues to find a solution. The answer is right next door.
